What if we could come together as one human family to chart a way out of the climate crisis free from the fetters of politics-as-usual? That’s the vision behind a new Global Citizens Assembly formed to build the popular mandates governments need to move faster on cutting emissions. Citizens assemblies in countries such as Ireland, France and Canada have already shown how groups of ordinary people informed by expert advice can generate breakthrough proposals on divisive issues. The Global Citizens Assembly goes a step further by gathering a representative sample of the entire world’s population broken down by gender, race, age and economic background – and chosen by lottery. The goal: harness our collective wisdom to power a new era of bold climate action.
