Leicester’s Asian community is the biggest in the entire UK, making up 37.13% of the population at the last census. On returning to his home city after 27 years away, photographer Kavi Pujara set about documenting and celebrating the people that he had grown up around. The end result was This Golden Mile, an acclaimed series of portraits shot along the main arterial road through Leicester’s Asian districts. ‘Communities like this are not an erosion of British values or its culture,’ said Kavi of the people he photographed. ‘But a vital part of our intertwined colonial histories.’
