In recognition of the unique challenges faced by ethnically diverse disabled creatives working in the arts, the pioneering Disability Arts Online (DAO) group worked through 2022 on its inaugural ONYX project. This pilot scheme saw 10 creatives ‘who share the lived experience of disability and racism’ be supported, resourced and mentored through the creation of new work for publication, and culminated in the delivery of 12 new artistic presentations across the UK. The scheme not only networked a community of often excluded artists, but also widened access their work to audiences.
